Budget Vs Time – Survival Kits for Paupers

Survival kits are not cheap

I found I had 2 constraints while I was building the plan to build my survival kit.

Time – I wanted to have something useful as quickly as possible and then build the survival kit up from there.

Money – I can’t break the bank doing this so I decided to budget $100/mo to build the kit and use poor mans survival supplies.

With those 2 constraints, I still needed to pare the list of items for my survival kit down further so that I could make monthly purchases and have a useful survival kit as quickly as possible.

So, I decided to use time frames – short, medium & long.

Short would be things we’d need in a hurry that should last up to 2 weeks.

Medium would be things that we’d need for an extended period of up to 2 months.

Long would be everything else.

Now, I’ve divided the list into 5 categories and 3 times frames and that resulted in short, manageable lists of items that I need to build a survival kit or poor mans survival supplies.

Once again, I checked what I had done against some commercially available survival kits – wilderness survival kits this time, as I’d seen a big interest in wilderness survival kits from Chicago, Philadelphia and Los Angeles.  I’m not sure why those areas are particularly interested in wilderness survival kits but it certainly made sense to do some extra research just to confirm that I’m on the right track.

You don’t want money to keep you from surviving.  Building survival kits with an eye on the budget is feasible and makes sense.
