I use a Bushnell Game Camera to keep an eye on things during the week. You’re only supposed to check on the birds once per week so that they don’t ever get used to humans. This also allows the quails to be introduced to other natural friends and foes.
Generally speaking, I don’t see a lot of activity around the surrogator. Here, we have a night visit from a friendly armadillo.
I’ve also never seen a roadrunner at the ranch before so this was s surprise. Many believe that roadrunners are predatory to quail. Not surprising, research on bobwhite quail can be hard to come by.
The quail have been in the surrogator for two weeks and are growing rapidly.
